DON’T DO LIFE ALONE

They are your key to developing healthy relationships with those who share your interests, or people who are dealing with similar life issues.

Groups are an opportunity to reach out to others, while growing in your walk with God.
Groups meet in homes, businesses, restaurants, or other locations throughout the city. These groups change at different times during the year, so you have the opportunity to explore different groups and you can join a group at any time. You’ll never fully experience all Journey’s Crossing has to offer until you connect in a Group!

Let us help you find a group.

SMALL GROUPS

Small groups are weekly gatherings of about 5-15 people that meet in homes, coffeeshops, restaurants, and the great outdoors.

They exist to provide a place where you can make friends, follow Jesus, and make a difference.
We have groups that study the Bible, others that play sports, some built around serving the community, while still others gather around the dinner table. Wherever you are in life and in your spiritual journey, we have a group for you.

HOW TO JOIN A GROUP

  1. Find a group below
  2. Contact the leader
  3. Show up

Questions About Groups

Is Childcare Provided?
Not all Groups offer childcare, but there are options available. Some Group members share the responsibility of watching the kids, split the cost for a sitter, or make other arrangements. Let us know if you would like to join a Group with a childcare option.
What will my Group do?
It depends on the kind of Group you choose. Some Groups serve on the same team at church. Other Groups study the Bible together. And some get together to enjoy a shared interest, such as basketball, Jeeps, or video games. Find all the Group options here.
How long is the Commitment to the Group?
Our groups usually run for three months (as we know that interests change along with schedules). While we encourage you to commit to the three-month time-frame in order to give relationships a chance to grow, feel free to visit as many as you’d like until you find one that fits you.
Where do Groups Meet?
Groups meet in homes, restaurants, or coffee shops. Some Groups meet to ride bikes or go for a hike. We can help you find a Group near you and based on an activity you’re interested in.
How often do Groups meet?
That is entirely up to the group leader. Some groups meet once a week, others meet every other week, and some are just once a month! The leader will make all group members aware of the schedule (and the schedule will also be posted in the /groups booklet).

Lead A Group

You know as much as anybody that it’s important to be connected. That’s one reason you’re part of Journey’s Crossing.

We know it’s hard to connect with others and build lasting friendships. We know that even defining community is tough because being in community is more than showing up for Bible study. It’s also sharing food, laughing till it hurts, and doing what you love to do with your favorite people.

What if you could help more people find and enjoy that kind of laughing, caring, and growing community. You can. Here’s how:

Discipleship Journey, Admin Group
Leader: Marlana Titus

We will use The Journey Discipleship material, and study Jesus' Mission. Our group will dig into this study together, and also work together as an ADMIN team to process Sunday data to assist with Sunday next steps, newcomer data, prayer requests, and connections.

8:30am ADMIN
10-11:30am SMALL GROUP

Through this vital disciple-making experience, each group member discusses and practices the following disciplines: reading the Bible, prayer, community, serving, and evangelism. Disciples explore both individual disciplines and the disciplines of community. Like all the releases in the Disciples Path series, The Mission uses teaching, questions, conversation, exercises, and individual study to facilitate transformational discipleship through this dynamic yet personal Bible study experience.

The study includes an introduction to the weekly session topic, guided prayer options, and Scripture focus with text and narrative explanation that drives the weekly meeting. Also included each week are discussion questions and group exercises that reinforce the primary teaching points of each topic. Individual study and out-of-group activities have all been crafted to help users take their next step as disciples of Christ. These optional activities include but are not limited to reading plans, prayer exercises, personal study, and journaling.

Features:

Bible study format, content, and activities created and written by practicing disciple-makers. Individual exercises to provide opportunities to practice discipleship. A personal Bible study plan.

Benefits: Examine the connection between the disciplines and the life of a disciple. Understand the importance and apply disciplines of prayer and reading the Bible. Facilitate transformation through modeling and practice. Use as a "handbook" for one-on-one or two-on-one discipleship situations. Lead effectively--requires minimal leader preparation and allows the facilitator to model what it means to be a disciple. Initiate an intentional discipleship path with individuals or groups.

Kingdom Man, Men 25-35
Leader: Cyrus Moses Massey

Join us for fun, intriguing and thought provoking conversations as we study Tony Evan's series: KINGDOM MAN. You can expect a crew of authentic, down to earth guys that are ready to have fun, play games, and share each-others burdens. When a man follows the principles of biblical manhood, those around him benefit from his leadership and care. Kingdom Man challenges and equips men to fully understand their position under God as well as their position over what God has given them. The biblical definition of a man is one who has learned to operate under the authority of Jesus Christ while carrying out responsible and legitimate leadership within the sphere of influence that God has placed him. Kingdom Man provides concepts men can follow that will help them to actively pursue ways to maximize and develop the character qualities of biblical manhood in their lives. STARTING February 20-May

Children are welcome!

How can I … cope with stress? rebound from failure? defeat depression? have peace of mind? Life's difficult questions have answers. Answers from the Bible that can change your outlook?and your life. Rick Warren writes, "In each of these studies, you will discover simple ways to apply God's truth to your personal life, your family, and your job. The way to get the most out of this book is to act on it." Rick Warren takes you inside the Scriptures to see what they reveal about twelve of the most pressing questions people ask. They are questions you yourself either have asked or most likely will ask. This book provides simple, straightforward answers you can begin to apply right away to move past your worst sticking points and enjoy a life of purpose, peace, and significance.

Nicole Unice, "She's Got Issues"

Meets Tuesday, 7pm @JC in Germantown. Led by Carmen (Abela) Nazario

Christian counselor, ministry leader, and regular mom Nicole Unice shines on video in this inspiring six-session She's Got Issues DVD Curriculum—perfect for churches and small groups. As she does in the book, Nicole talks candidly about how the everyday issues that drive you crazy affect you . . . and why you don't have to settle for letting them win. Some days living up to the whole good-Christian image seems impossible. You do the right things (well, most of the time), but you just don't feel changed by your faith. Deep down, you're still dealing with the ordinary struggles—control, insecurity, comparison, fear, anger, and unforgiveness—that hold you back from living free and loving well. The good news? You don't have to "fix" yourself. You have access to the power of Christ. His power can transform your everyday weaknesses into your greatest strengths and gifts.

What About The Women?
Leader: Kim Lefelar

Wed mornings from 10-11 at Tuckahoe Way, North Potomac, MD 20878. No childcare available.

We will look at how Jesus interacted with women during his ministry and what is significant about those interactions for us today. We will study what was unique and atypical about the way he engaged with women and what we can learn about the character of God as a result of the study of these female encounters.

No book needed other than a Bible and notebook. We will summarize the study and provide an outline at the first meeting, and use it as a time to get to know each other and get a read on where we all are when it comes to our preconceived ideas about women and God/Jesus. We will keep the study at an hour.

Wisdom Collection - Proverbs
Leader: Yolanda (Misha) Rious

We will delve into the book of Proverbs, one of three books of the Bible specifically known as "wisdom literature." Written nearly 700 years before Christ came to earth, it is chock-filled with practical, reader-friendly passages on how to successfully navigate through this world. There's "advice" on love, sex, finances, work, child rearing, education, marriage and even dressing appropriately - for all ages and stages of grace. And it challenges us at the very beginning with this assertion: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom." Over the course of 8 weeks, let's unravel what that means and how it can impact what we think and how we live.
