Did You Know?
In its 2010 report titled “Progress on Sanitation and Drinking Water”, the World Health Organization (WHO)/United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Joint Monitoring Program (JMP) confirms that while progress continues to be made, 10% of the world’s population, or approximately 672 million people, will still lack access to safe drinking water sources by 2015. Unfortunately, the clean water crisis does not get the same level of attention as other natural disasters even though more people die from illnesses caused by drinking dirty water than from earthquakes, hurricanes, tsunamis and floods combined. Experts estimate that a child dies every 15 seconds due to water related illnesses.
We're NOT Cool With That
Journey’s Crossing, in partnership with Living Water International and many other sponsoring organizations, are hosting a short film film festival on June 16th, 2012 to raise awareness of the clean water crisis and to raise funds to install one or more wells in Kenya (a $12,000 project!).
The Main Event
The festival will be held on Saturday, June 16th, 2012 at the Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD. Short films from a variety of genres will be accepted. Although not required, films where water or the issue of clean water is a prominent element will be given special consideration. Official guidelines are available on
our website.
Volunteers
We'll need many, many, many (did we mention many?) volunteers to make this a successful event! If you're interested in helping out, please contact tiffany@reelwaterfilmfest.org.
